원래 사람이 머리를 쓰면 뇌에서 노폐물이 만들어지고

뇌척수액은 코 뒤쪽에 있는 비인두 림프관망으로 모이게 되며
목 림프관과 목 림프절로 이어지면서 뇌척수액을 뇌 바깥으로 빼내는 역할을 하는데
이 비인두 림프관망이 뇌척수액 배출 경로의 허브가 된다는 것.
노화에 따라 비인두 림프관망이 변형되어 뇌척수액 배출이 줄어드는 것도 확인했는데,
목 림프관에는 노화에 따른 변형이 없었고 이를 이용해 목 림프관에 있는 근육세포의 수축과 이완을 약물조절로 유도한 결과 펌프처럼 작동하여 뇌척수액을 쉽게 빼낼 수 있음을 확인.

연구팀은 노폐물이 포함된 뇌척수액 배출 조절을 머리가 아닌 목에서 손쉽게 조절할 수 있음을 확인함으로 연구결과의 의미가 있다고 설명했고, 영장류 동물모델을 대상으로 뇌척수액 배출 경로를 연구중인데 생쥐와 비슷한 결과를 얻고 있다고 밝힘.
